How To Use the Matterport Manual Blur Tool
How To Use the Matterport Manual Blur Tool

High-quality digital twins are not simply about capture quality, they also require careful postproduction and data awareness.

One of the most useful editing features available within Matterport Workshop is the Manual Blur Tool, enabling authorised editors to obscure sensitive information before a model is shared with clients, project teams or the public.

Whether working in architecture, surveying, education, facilities management, insurance or heritage documentation, understanding how and when to apply blur is an important professional skill.

What Is the Matterport Manual Blur Tool?

The Blur Tool allows editors to manually apply blur to selected areas within a Matterport Space.

Typical uses include protecting:

  • Personal information
  • Screens and displays
  • Security infrastructure
  • Building access details
  • Client documentation
  • Confidential operational areas
  • Occupant identity and privacy

The feature gives organisations greater confidence when sharing immersive digital environments.

How to Apply Blur in Matterport Workshop

  1. Open the Space

Access the completed Space within Matterport Workshop.

  1. Launch the Blur Tool

Choose the Blur editing option.

  1. Identify Sensitive Content

Move to the most suitable scan position and inspect the environment carefully.

  1. Apply Blur Precisely

Use controlled brush strokes to conceal only the necessary information.

  1. Validate Across Multiple Views

Move between scans to confirm there are no alternative viewing angles exposing content.

  1. Process and Publish

Save the edit and allow Matterport to process the changes.

Important Consideration

Blur should be treated as a permanent editorial decision.

Once applied, the only method of removing blur is to reprocess the Space from the original Capture data.

This reinforces the importance of reviewing a model thoroughly before committing changes.
